I grew up moving around a lot. We lived in various places in the world and it was always an adventure. When I got older, I realized it was a heavy task. My mom and dad never made it feel like a big deal. Whenever we moved, they made sure they set up the necessities right away. We always had a moving company take care of the actual move, so we were never driving a rental truck around. We used moving storage options every time. We often had to have a small shipment delivered before the big truck could bring the whole lot. That required a certain amount of moving storage logistics. For the moves to other countries, we usually had to prepare to have things in one of those moving storage facilities for a couple months until we were settled in a permanent place. By the time we finished our moves, we were so familiar with the movers that we would buy them beer and pizza.
You would think I would be a whiz at all this moving storage hoopla after years of practice. When we underwent a big remodeling project recently, my moving maven persona was shattered. Were were required to pack up many things and move to a little part of the house for months. We decided to contact a moving storage business and have a transportable box delivered for the belongings we needed to store. They brought it to our curb and we moved things into it at our leisure. When we had everything packed in the container, the moving storage company took it to their warehouse. We did not have to load everything in a truck, then into a storage facility like in the old days. The warehouse was climate controlled and guarded by a security guard. We called the moving storage people when our remodeling project was done, the container was brought to our curbside again and we unpacked at our leisure.
If all that went so smoothly, why then did I lose my title as moving pro? Well, in the middle of this whole moving storage adventure, there was a minor hiccup. We ended up moving out of the house entirely, after an unfortunate incident that involved the contractors forgetting to turn off our central air system before cutting into a concrete foundation. I lost it. We were expecting our second child at the time. It was freezing outside and I had to rush my belly and my child out of the house within a matter of minutes, when the house began to fill with small particulate concrete material. My husband rushed home in a taxi to help. He covered everything in plastic and grabbed things for an overnight bag. Some lovely friends let us stay in their basement before we could move into an apartment around the corner. It was not the smooth moves I experienced as a kid. Needless to say, I called my parents during the whole moving storage debacle and told them how much I appreciated their hard work during all those moves when I was a child.

Once you have picked the right company, moving is really so easy. All you have to do is to inform them when to bring the storage container. At your specified date and time, they will then deliver the containers right at your doorstep. You can now load your things to the container. But you can do this at your own time since most companies will allow you packing your things at your own pace.

You could sell your office furniture and purchase all new items at the completion of your move, or you could spend a modest amount of money to use self storage while you are moving. Did you know that the average cost of an office cubicle is over one thousand dollars? A self storage unit can be leased for several months for the price of one new cube. If each employee got a new cubicle, it would amount to tens of thousands of dollars for an average sized office. If would have only cost a few hundred dollars to store your furniture in a self storage unit and recycled it within your new office space at the end of your move.
Another situation in which a self storage unit would be helpful is in making bulk purchases.
