People who are building their own house can rent them too. Some construction sites use storage pods to keep their tools in until the project is finished.
It is ok to put the storage pods on bare ground or pavement. No ramps are needed with storage pods.
Ground level storage pods make moving more convient than moving vans with ramps.

To make moving storage safer and easier to move, pack it so that the weight is evenly distributed across the bottom of the container. Putting lighter items on the top and heavier items on the floor will add to the container’s stability.
Fill in every empty space you can find, even the smallest crannies. Even a little empty space can let your things rattle around enough to break. Use packing peanuts in boxes, but do not pour them loose into the container unless you have enough to fill the container.

In most cases, you end up in a mad rush to store away bunged in whatever came first, little realizing the difficulty at the unloading end. If you were well heeled, probably the best Movers and Packers would be hired. However, what would be the result if you had no accommodation upon arrival at your new locality? Where do you store your belongings away for the interim period? Even more vexing would have been to move overseas with no immediate place of residence, meaning a heavy bill waiting at the airport or the Docks. There has got to be a better way out.

The warehouse was climate controlled and guarded by a security guard. We called the moving storage people when our remodeling project was done, the container was brought to our curbside again and we unpacked at our leisure.
If the story was that simple, I would have been able to maintain my moving maven status. It is all attributable to a small moving storage mishap we should have foreseen, but did not. We moved to a small apartment after a couple weeks, due to an unexpected construction dust storm.
